Act Now: Family assistance payments

From the Department of Human Services:

1. Confirm your family’s income

If you got FTB during the 2017-18 financial year, you may still need to confirm your family’s income details. Do this by lodging a tax return or telling us you don’t need to lodge one. Your partner will also need to do the same.

We need you to confirm your family’s income details so we can balance your payments. We do this to make sure we paid you the right amount throughout the year.

If you don’t do this by 30 June 2019, you may miss out on top up payments or supplements. You may also have to pay back any FTB you got in 2017-18 and your future fortnightly FTB payments may stop.

If you haven’t confirmed your family income, we’ll be writing to you soon. So keep an eye out for a letter from us.

What you need to do

You need to confirm your and your partner’s income details for the 2017-18 financial year. Do this by either:

If you don’t need to lodge a tax return, tell us using either your:

If you get a letter from us but you’ve already lodged a tax return, you don’t need to do anything else. We’ll get your details from the ATO once they process your tax return. This can take up to 28 days from when you get your Notice of Assessment from the ATO.

2. Submit a lump sum claim for FTB

If you didn’t get FTB for part or all of the 2017-18 financial year, you can submit a lump sum claim. Before you do, check if you can get it.

You need to submit your lump sum claim before 30 June 2019 to claim FTB for the 2017-18 financial year. If you don’t, you may miss out.

If you’re claiming FTB, you and your partner will also need to confirm your income by 30 June 2019. We’ll ask for this as part of your claim.

How to claim

You can claim using your Centrelink online account through myGov. Read more about how to claim FTB.
